Compounded medications are not FDA-approved.
The FDA does not review compounded medications for safety, effectiveness, or quality before they are marketed. Compounded medications are not generic drugs. A licensed provider determines whether a compounded medication is appropriate for an individual patient, and availability depends on provider licensure, pharmacy authorization, and applicable law.
